Artist Sondra Lipton

Sondra Lipton, a business executive, former model and New York City-based artist, has taken up her paintbrush again—creating exclusive and exquisite still-life oil paintings and oils on paper. She actually paints in the luxurious bed of her elegant East Side home.

Lipton, a celebrated model (runway, couture, fashion shows, print, TV) for Vogue, Dior, Bill Blass, Geoffrey Beene, and Givenchy, grew up in New York. Her mother introduced to her the great art of the city’s museums.

While modeling, raising a child, and creating beautiful living spaces, Lipton began to paint the flower arrangements, fruits, vegetables and objects she had in her home—and refrigerator. After a day of modeling, and being on her feet, she hopped on the bed, a quiet, comfortable space to relax—and paint.

Sondra Lipton’s luscious renditions of fruits, flowers, vegetables, breads artfully arranged in antique vases and porcelain baskets (which draw on the traditions of Flemish and French still lifes of the 17th and 18th century) attracted the attention of late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Isaac Stern and Mrs. Vincent Astor, James Earl Jones, the Mellon and Rockefeller families, who purchased them.

In addition to her international art shows and television appearances, Sondra Lipton is noted in Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who in American Art.
